PDF Merger & Splitter

Combine multiple PDFs into one document, or extract specific page ranges into a new file — all locally in your browser.

All PDF processing happens locally in your browser. Your documents are never uploaded, cached, or stored on any server.

Managing PDF documents often requires combining multiple files into one cohesive document or extracting specific pages for sharing, archiving, or submission. Our free PDF Merger & Splitter handles both tasks in a single tool — upload multiple PDFs and merge them in a custom order, or upload one PDF and extract precise page ranges into a new file. Built on the pdf-lib library for robust PDF manipulation, every operation runs entirely in your browser using the FileReader and Blob APIs. No server uploads, no account required, no file size limits beyond your device's memory — just fast, private, client-side PDF management.

Why Merge or Split PDFs?

Merging multiple PDFs is essential when you need to combine separate reports, contracts, scanned pages, or presentations into a single unified document for sharing, printing, or archival. Splitting a PDF lets you extract only the pages you need — remove blank pages, isolate specific chapters, extract forms, or break a large document into smaller, more manageable files. Together, these operations form the foundation of document assembly workflows used daily by professionals in legal, finance, education, publishing, and administration.

How to Merge PDFs

  1. Select Merge mode — Ensure the Merge PDFs tab is active.
  2. Upload your PDFs — Drag and drop two or more PDF files into the upload zone, or click to browse and select multiple files.
  3. Arrange the order — Use the up and down arrows to reorder the files. The top-to-bottom order determines the page sequence in the merged PDF.
  4. Download the merged PDF — Click the Merge PDFs button to combine all files and download the result.

How to Split a PDF

  1. Select Split mode — Click the Split PDF tab.
  2. Upload your PDF — Drag and drop a single PDF file. The page count is displayed once loaded.
  3. Specify pages to extract — Enter page numbers and ranges separated by commas (e.g. 1-5, 8, 10-12). The tool extracts these pages in the exact order you specify.
  4. Download the split PDF — Click Extract Pages to generate and download a new PDF containing only your selected pages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my PDFs uploaded to any server?
No. All merging, splitting, and page manipulation runs entirely in your browser using the pdf-lib library and standard web APIs. Your files are never transmitted to any external server.
How many PDFs can I merge at once?
There is no hard limit on the number of PDFs you can merge, though very large collections (50+ files or hundreds of pages) may require more browser memory. Individual files are limited to 100 MB each. For typical business and academic use, performance is fast and reliable.
What page range format should I use for splitting?
Use commas to separate entries. Each entry can be a single page number (e.g. 5) or a range with a dash (e.g. 1-10). Mix both freely: 1-3, 5, 7-10. Pages are output in the exact order you specify.
Does merging or splitting affect the original PDF quality?
No. The pdf-lib library preserves the original document content — text, fonts, images, vector graphics, and page dimensions — during both merging and splitting operations. The output PDFs maintain the same visual fidelity as the source documents.
Can I reorder pages from different PDFs?
Yes. In Merge mode, you can reorder entire PDF files using the up/down arrows. The merged output will have all pages from the first PDF, followed by all pages from the second, and so on. For per-page reordering across documents, you can use the Split mode to extract specific pages first, then merge the extracted files in your desired order.
